SUJI TRANSIT INFORMATION (Samik, Woomi, Good Morning Hill/GMH, Sunny Valley, Ramien)

The big map is here.

The bad news: Of all the KIS staff, you are the farthest from the subway. It’s a good 25-minute walk to Ori station if you’re a vigorous walker and an adult. If you’re pushing a stroller or holding hands with an easily-distracted six-year-old, consider camping gear.

The good news: You have the easiest and most frequent bus access of any staff to KIS and to your local subway station. See details below -- there are LOTS of choices, LOTS of bus stops, and LOTS of bus routes.

The best thing to know about buses here is one that folks who have lived there for years still don’t use: SIX GREEN BUSES take you to/from Migeum and Samik, and within 1-3 blocks of all other locations. I have lost count of how many people tell me “7-11” -- that is, they go out of Migeum station exit 7, wait for yellow bus 11, then ride it home. Works great -- but 11 often stops and waits at Migeum station. So if you catch 11 at Migeum and sit for five minutes waiting for it to move, count how many green buses that start with 7 pass you. Every single one of those buses would take you to the stop at Samik or the stop one block south of GMH. No, I’m not kidding -- ALL of them really will! So think 7-11, but also 7-7. Specific numbers below.

Also helpful: this link tells you exactly which buses go from Migeum to exactly which neighborhoods and bus stops. All of the buses listed below go close to all of the neighborhoods, but Samik is the only place where all of them stop at your front door.

NOTE THAT MOST OF THESE TRIPS REQUIRE BUS, THEN SUBWAY.

*Samsung Medical is case-by-case as to which method is faster. If you get to the bus stop and 6900 is almost there, take it. If 6900 is 10-15 minutes or more away, take 11 or take the first green bus beginning with 7 that comes by and do the Migeum subway thing.

Important notes for Costco: 1) Yangjae Citizens Forest and Yangjae ARE NOT THE SAME STATION! See your subway map. 2) If you are a moderate walker and don’t have a stroller or a toddler, the 15-minute walk from Yangjae Citizens Forest is almost always the faster of these two options. It takes an extra 2 minutes for the subway to get to Yangjae station (going away from Costco the entire time), then an extra 5-8 minutes to exit the station (it’s a very large station), then a 1-10 minute wait for the bus, then the 08 and 20 buses stop frequently and deal with heavy traffic.

Finally -- explore! I’ve given very basic information to keep this from getting over-long. There’s so much more to find. For example, at Migeum station there’s a small grocery store a block north of the station, a small gym in the same building, an English-speaking church, a Kim’s Club, a Hana Bank, and loads of Western restaurants and snack spots. Break out of your box and walk around a bit. You’ll be amazed at the variety you’ll find. :-)
